We are proud to be a family owned business. In 1971, Forrest Sargent founded Sargent’s Landscape Nursery, Inc. Today, Sargent's is still owned and operated by Forrest Sargent with the help of his son, Nick. With a fifth-generation from the original company already planning to “work in the nursery” when they grow-up, Sargent’s Landscape Nursery, Inc. looks forward to providing great plants, excellent customer service and creative designs for many generations to come.Â
What is Sargent's?
Sargent’s is not defined by a store, a building, or even its long history as a five-generation family business. Sargent’s is defined by its people and their passion for quality plants, products and outdoor projects. Their ideas, their hard work, and their resilience are what have shaped who we are. We exist today because of the hearts and minds of those who have built and continue to build this place.Â
Why do we exist?
We believe nature makes life better. The beauty around where we live, work, and play strengthens our well-being, our creativity, and our sense of peace. Our purpose is to help people bring that beauty into their lives so they can thrive. Someone may be having one of the worst days of their life and while sitting on their patio, they look around at the beautiful plants we sold to them, or the beautiful outdoor space we created for them, and what they experience in those moments could lift them up a bit.Â
our vision
To be a successful 100-year company where people love to work.Â
Success for us isn’t a single number or milestone. It’s something we build steadily and intentionally by focusing on five things that matter:
· What our people say about working here
· What our customers say about their experience with us
· Our financial strength and long-term stability
· How we grow in our market
· How we develop our people
Sargent’s began in 1971 with Forrest Sargent and has already grown through multiple generations and challenges. Being a 100-year company means we’re planning far beyond today, protecting what’s special about this place and strengthening it for the future.
Just as important, we want Sargent’s to be a place where people genuinely like coming to work. Pay and benefits matter, but so does the feeling of being known, supported, and given room to grow. Our culture only exists because of the people who show up every day and make it real.
our mission
To create unique experiences that make people say, “Wow!”
Sargent’s is an experiential brand. People don’t just buy a plant or a landscape project from us, they have an encounter with our team, our quality, and our passion for what we do.
Every interaction is a chance to make someone feel surprised in the best way: “That was amazing. I didn’t expect that.” That’s the standard we aim for, not through grand gestures, but through consistent attention, care, and pride in the work we do.
our values
Our Values:
These values were officially named in 2019, but they’ve lived in the company since the start. They reflect what we’ve seen consistently in the people who make Sargent’s special.
· Mutualism: Like a bee and a flower, both sides thrive when they support each other. When the company invests in its people and people invest in the company, everyone grows.
· Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. It sounds simple, and it is, but living it daily is what keeps our culture strong and steady.
· All-Hands: Our work is seasonal, fast-paced, and sometimes unpredictable. We shift, flex, and jump in wherever help is needed. No one succeeds alone here.
· Quality in the Details: Quality isn’t about perfection, it’s about the small things that shape how someone feels about what they purchased or experienced. Details matter because people notice them.
· I.D.S.: Identify. Discuss. Solve. We work through challenges together, talk openly, and decide with purpose. Progress beats perfection.
why this matters
These aren’t just statements to put on a wall. They describe how we work, why customers trust us, and what makes Sargent’s a place worth investing your time and talent in.
Every plant grown, every yard transformed, every interaction in the store, those things build our reputation and our future. And every person here plays a part in that.
